A Stylish Designer Tells Us What’s On Her Festive Wish List

Turkish jewellery designer Begüm Khan’s pieces are instantly recognisable. Often inspired by nature, maximalism is a word best used to describe the collection – plus, it’s easy to see how Begüm’s own flair for style informs her work. Here, we asked her to share everything currently on her own wish list…

1. The Party Dress

Currently, I've got my eye on a black macramé dress by Elie Saab that I wore during a shoot in Paris. The moment I tried it on, I knew it was the dress of the season. It just really stood out to me.

2. The Skirt

I’m definitely a skirts and dresses girl. Some of my favourite skirts are from Sylvia Tcherassi, Carolina Herrera, and Oscar De La Renta. I often opt for statement skirts in bold prints such as leopard or bright florals.

3. The Shoes

It might sound a bit cliché, but the Chanel slingbacks are my to-go shoes. You can wear them from day to night and they’re so comfortable. İ wear them to the office, knowing I can keep them on if I’m invited somewhere in the evening. One of the most important things for a working woman in Istanbul is comfortable shoes and these definitely tick that box.

4. The Bag

During the day, I like to use my vintage Hermès Kelly bag. I fill it with Misela pouches and organisers to make sure I can find everything I need. As you can see from our new collaboration with Guerlain, I always carry my Guerlain Rouge G lipstick with me. For the evening, I love our own golden clutches, especially the one with the Evil Eye on it.

5. The Jewellery

I started making jewellery because I couldn't find what I was looking for. The Windsor Necklace with its baroque pearls and the Prawn Earcuff are some of my favourite pieces, as is the Maharani Necklace from our Grand Ball collection. It’s all I need to elevate my look. I like to wear it with a low-cut top and jeans or with a dress for the evening – it’s so versatile.

6. The Beauty Essentials

A red lipstick and a good moisturiser are my go-to products. At the moment, I'm using Guerlain's Abeille Royale and its double serum. I absolutely love how fresh and vibrant they make my skin feel. I prefer a simple make-up look, so just a touch of mascara and a bold lip. It's a classic combination.

7. The Tool

I'm not usually that into tools and gadgets, but every now and then I enjoy using Foreo's Facial Cleansing and Firming Massage Device. However, my usual routine involves a more traditional approach to cleansing where I use my hands and a gentle cleanser.

8. The Skincare Hero

I can't praise Augustinus Bader's The Cream highly enough. It's like a miracle in a bottle that truly gives you baby-soft skin overnight.

9. The Scent

I have a deep love for Tonka Imperiale from Guerlain. As for candles, I have a soft spot for local Turkish brand, Atelier Rebul. It makes wonderful scents, and one that stands out to me is Bereket.  The richness is so addictive.

10. The Interiors Buy

If I could have any interiors item in my home right now, it would be my uncle Serdar Gulgun’s Turtle Champagne Bowl.

11. The Artist

I really want to own a piece of art by my friend – the talented Turkish artist Taner Ceylan. He is widely regarded as one of the most successful practitioners of the photorealistic style among the current generation of young Turkish artists.

12. The Gadget

Right now, I'm in urgent need of an iPhone power bank, mainly because I rely on a single phone for both my work and personal life.

13. The Book

I really enjoy reading historical memoirs and among my favourites is A Princess Remembers by Gayatri Devi. I'm also drawn to books that delve into the histories of legendary brands, such as the Assouline's book on Guerlain's illustrious past.

14. The Hostess Gift

If I’m invited somewhere outside of Turkey, then I love to take rose-flavoured Turkish delight as a gift. I also like to gift candles that I get from Nicolai – a very well-known perfume and scents brand.

15. The Tablescaping Essential

I love my Ginori plates and custom green napkins. I also love vintage drinking bottles – they’re so nostalgic to me because they remind me of family gatherings past.
